Bay Area Railroading: Past and Present

The San Francisco Bay Area was once home to a hot bed of railroad activity. Large passenger depots, miles of freight yard tracks, and maintenance facilities have been greatly reduced in size and scale. Nevertheless, the railroad still plays a vital role in moving commuters, rail passengers, and freight all around the Bay Area. Even San Francisco has regular trains operating everyday with both Caltrain and Union Pacific serving the local populations and industries. Come and visit the GGMRC and our friends at the Randall Museum to find out more about Bay Area railroading both past and present!

Golden Gate Model Railroad Club Update: 2/25/10

The new year brings new items to the GGMRC! Eric Tindall has been hard at work building a new grain elevator at Lodi Junction. This facility will provide new life to a stagnant economy in this struggling community. Also, the 3 alarm fire at downtown Stockton has been raised to 4 alarms and an aerial ladder with more firefighters have been installed. The aerial ladder features flashing lights to warn the public that a fire rages on. Finally, the GGMRC membership have posted signs outlining how parents and children can make their visit to the Club more enjoyable and safer. Please come and see the new additions as well as the railroad action this and every Saturday between 10am to 4pm. Highball!

You may have seen several high profile train accidents lately in the local news. The reality is railroad tracks demand a heightened sense of awareness and anything less can seriously injure people or claim lives. The Golden Gate Model Railroad Club encourages everyone to be aware when around train stations, railroad tracks, and grade crossings. Look, listen, and live.

We’re moving into the twenty-first century at long last. The website, languishing since 2002, was in dire need of a facelift. Even more importantly, it needed the capability for club members and fellow rail fans to contribute and interact.
